2009 First Drop Wines JR Gantos Quinta do Sul McLaren Vale

Opaque ruby.  Spice-accented bouquet displays red- and blackcurrant, dried rose and herbs, with a smoky quality gaining strength with air.  Fresh red berry and bitter cherry flavors are given sharp focus by a nervy mineral spine.  Sweeter on the persistent finish, closing with a whiplash of spicy cherry and smoke.  There's no excess fat here. 90 points
